Finally an article after my own heart

by Nick on September 21, 2010

This post didn’t start out as a rant, but it looks like it turned into one halfway into the first paragraph.  As usual, I apologize in advance for the rant.  I was really having a good day.  But somewhere around my first mention of the word “politics” I got angry.  Is that normal?  Maybe I should add that word to my list of words and phrases that make my blood boil and could cost you money…  But I digress.

It’s been said before and it will be said again, but I love stumbling across an article like this one, like I did today, because it gives people who just need a “complicated answer” to a simple problem, something to read that may help them get to the simple solution – SAVE YOUR MONEY AND THINGS WILL START TO IMPROVE FOR YOU!!!  Maybe I should like the article they link to a little more than the newer one, but I don’t actually “like” either one of the articles.  I only really care about the general message – switching from a “spending” world to a “saving” world – and how to apply it to my little slice of the pie (mmmm… pie…).  We’ve talked about it before, but that will get most people 90% of the way towards financial independence no matter what’s going on in the world around you.

Let me be clear about a few things relating to the articles:

  1. I’m not very “into” politics and you’ll almost never find me talking about politics here (or anywhere else really).  At the end of the day, I don’t care about republican v. democrat v. anything or anyone else.
  2. I don’t really care to talk about the reasons for or the theories behind the stimulus enough to blog about it.  I also probably don’t know enough about it to blog intelligently about it – although that hasn’t stopped me before… (-:
  3. I generally only like to talk about politics enough to have some fun with folks who get very into it and watch their blood temperature rise… Yes, I like to get rises out of people.

Also:

  1. I believe in principals.
  2. I believe in spending less than you make no matter who or what you are – people, companies and government.
  3. I understand that “things come up” but don’t think it’s very wise to create “things” to come up.
  4. I have very specific views on what an “emergency” is, so I don’t buy the “my 1980 Toyota unexpectedly broke down so it’s an emergency” argument.  Sorry.  (I’m actually not sorry.)

(-:

But wouldn’t it be amazing to see what the economy would be like if people saved money instead of getting into consumer debt?  Let’s hope this concept catches on.

So, until next time, let’s all work on improving our little piece of the world by putting our credit cards down and slowly stepping away from the mall!
