Two weeks ago I listed my September to-do list and a bonus “work new year’s resolution.” Normally I’m pretty good at completing my to-do lists and, like many of you, have a hard time keeping up with my “resolutions.” This month it’s been the opposite so far. Not good. I’m going to have to hustle to complete the list. I have no excuses – only a little over a week to make it happen.
Anyhow, here are the details and status:
- “Rough out” an estate plan. I have not done this at all. I have no excuses. I got lazy.
- Check into disability insurance. It turns out I have decent disability insurance through work, but I didn’t learn enough to know more than that. I only have anecdotal information based on a few folks who have taken disability leave over the last few years. I also need to look into disability insurance for my wife. I’ve never heard of getting disability insurance for a stay-at-home parent, but logic leads me to believe that it is fairly common. After all, if a stay-at-home parent is not well enough to care for a child (or even just the home) you would have to hire someone to replace those services. Then again, when has logic had any relationship to the insurance industry
- Rebalance my investment portfolio. I’ve started this by doing quite a bit of homework on ETFs. I did rebalance my individual stock holdings. Overall I would say I’m about halfway there. I’m ready to pull the trigger on the rebalance by October 1, I believe.
- Shop around for homeowners insurance for my rental property. I’ve been pushing for a copy of our policy for two weeks. The insurance agent sent me my buddy’s car insurance policy instead of the homeowners policy. Again, the incompetence in the insurance industry is nothing less than amazing. I’m about ready to just ignore that policy and call around myself for a completely new one. I was hoping to compare apples to apples premiums. But I may have to start from scratch.
- “Work new year’s resolution” of having more complete weekends. So far so good! I’ve had both weekends off in September so far.
That’s it for now. I’ve done OK with number 3. I’m “so far so good” with having more complete weekends. I’ve completely dropped the ball on the others (so far). But there’s time to change it.
How are you all doing with your to-do lists? What, you don’t have a to-do list!?!? There’s still time! Put one together and let’s get it all done!
Until next time, put your credit card down and slowly step away from the mall!
